New Delhi: From October, India started offering 5G services. Reliance Jio and Airtel both revealed significant ambitions to lead the 5G revolution in India, while Vi (formerly Vodafone Idea) took a backseat. The first two, which are also India’s top telecom providers, have now collectively rolled out 5G services in nearly 50 Indian cities, bringing the latest wireless technology to everyone. Union Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav revealed the reality during the parliamentary question hour.
Responding to a question in the Parliament, the Minister said that “Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) have started offering 5G services in the country from 01.10.2022 and 50 cities have been covered by 5G services by 26.11.2022.” He said that now there is no additional charge for 5G services. In other words, if you are an existing paid customer of Airtel or Reliance Jio, you are yet to pay anything to access 5G in India.
