Salman Khan’s security upgraded to Y+ after threats from Bishnoi gang

The Maharashtra government has decided to provide Y+ grade security cover to actor Salman Khan in light of recent threats to him and his family allegedly by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

This will include a personal security officer, along with 11 armed police personnel including commandos, NDTV reported. After Salman’s father received a threat letter allegedly from Lawrence Bishnoi and the Goldie Brar gang, the state government provided police security to the actor. Now, the Eknath Shinde government has decided to upgrade the security cover after a threat perception review.

Actors Akshay Kumar and Anupam Kher have been granted X-category security, Times of India reports.

Mumbai Police recently issued a gun license to Salman who had applied for the same citing a death threat from gangsters. A team of Mumbai Police had interrogated Bishnoi in Delhi in connection with the case. The threat letter had referred to Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala who was shot dead by members of Bishnoi gang.

Lawrence Bishnoi, who is currently lodged in prison, is part of the Bishnoi community that revers blackbucks. The gangster has held a grudge towards Salman since the actor killed two blackbucks in Jodhpur in 1998.

In August 2020, Mumbai police arrested a sharpshooter of the Bishnoi gang who allegedly had plans to murder Salman. According to police, the sharpshooter had already conducted a recce in Mumbai on Bishnoi’s directions earlier that year.
